Phone Book Flowers

There is a special place in Hell for the makers of phone books. How many millions of Yellow Pages end up in the trash each year? Maybe each time one drops into a trash bin it goes straight through the bottom of the bin and shoots down to the earth’s core where it lands in Hell’s furnace. I don’t want to be responsible for keeping the lights on in Hell. Do you?Phone Book Flowers_1

Let’s make flowers instead.

We gathered a few dead branches from outside, which was nice because now they’ve been given a new life too. Then we folded small stacks of pages (about 3-4) and cut them like you cut snowflakes with a small hole in the center. We wrapped rubber bands around the branches to keep the flowers from sliding down, then we slipped the flowers on.  Make sure the hole in the center of your flower is not too wide that it slides past the rubber band. Secure a bud in the center with another rubber band.Phone Book Flowers_4

There’s no right or wrong way to do this. Let them be messy.  We also took pages and just wrapped them around and around without cutting a shape.  I love how these came out. Might have to go on a hunt for more branches…

You know what they say, “When life gives you phone books, make phone book flowers!”

(OK, I’ve never heard them say that.  But they should.)
