Yarnbomb 2015

Yarnbomb 2015 was a huge success. And by success I mean we honored women in history, the community enjoyed two weeks of eye-candy and when it was over, women living in shelters got some really pretty blankets for their beds. Also I did not fall out of a tree and die. See? Success.

Mom Opening Barbies

I did something today that I don’t normally do. I made an unboxing video and posted it to YouTube. It’s called Mom Opening Barbies. You know those videos with kids, where they’re opening toys? So it’s like that. Only it’s me, a mom, opening the toys.

mom opening barbies I wasn’t paid to do it. I’m just genuinely excited about the new Barbies coming out. The fact that my girls can now see themselves in Barbie thrills me. The fact that Barbie now creates a wide range of skin tones that actually reflect the diverse environment in which my girls live thrills me. The fact that there are now four body types and not just one impossible ideal thrills me.  Continue Reading…

Madeline Birthday Party

Today my baby turned 5. We celebrated with a Madeline birthday party for which I made too many things with too much hot glue. Maybe I put so much energy into birthdays to avoid thinking about them getting older. It’s a nice distraction. It’s selfish really, with the added benefit that they enjoy these shindigs. I miss holding them close to me in overly-complicated baby wraps. I miss co-sleeping. I miss tiny fingers and toes. But they grow. They get longer. They get stronger. They get smarter. And then one day they run away from you and tell you your hair is stupid and you’re a terrible mother. Sigh.

Madeline party, madeline, kids party, parties Today she did not run away from me. And I guess my hair was fine. She didn’t mention it.  Continue Reading…

Yarnbomb 2016

Calling all Crocheters!

Join me at the (old) Oak Room this Saturday February 6th from 10-2 for good old fashioned sit and stitch. Bring your hooks!

The yarn bomb is in honor of National Women’s History Month and will go up TUESDAY MARCH 8TH. Each tree is named after a different woman in American history.

Help is need to create the yarn pieces that go on the trees, installing the project, and dismantling. We will also need help turning those yarn pieces into blankets for women transitioning out of homelessness.

We’d love to see you, or contact me if you’d like to contribute from afar! xo

#ShowYourGold for St. Jude

#ShowYourGold for St. Jude

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It seems like it’s always some kinda month, right? But this one is about kids with cancer… which shouldn’t even be a thing. And the only way to make it go away is to get involved. Since 1962 St. Jude has been keeping kids alive. The survival rate for pediatric cancer was 20% when it opened. Today it’s at 80%, thanks to the research and technologies invented at St. Jude. Isn’t that amazing?! This month #showyourgold for the little warriors fighting this big battle by tagging your pics on social media. You can also change your Facebook profile pic and add fun gold props by visiting St. Jude here. Watch my video and find out what happened to that childhood cancer collection box my daughter brought home three years ago! (hint: the DONATE button works much better for me.) xo
