Christina and Tarek el Moussa from HGTV’s hit show Flip or Flop turn fixers into gold.
So when I was invited to have lunch with the El Moussas at a swanky restaurant in Hollywood to learn about their new partnership with HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams and their new paint I was like, YES! I want to use ALL the products THEY are using!
Nibbling on dumplings, talking about our jobs and families I looked at Christina, her hair perfect, her nails freshly manicured. I couldn’t resist leaning in and asking her…
“How do you do it?”
As I build my own career it’s hard to make time for my family. Despite occasional part-time help, I struggle. Pearl’s shoes are too small because I haven’t taken her shopping. Brushing Vivi’s hair hasn’t made the to do list in years.
Christina knew exactly what I was talking about. She knew I wanted to know how she balances work and family life.
“I had to put my foot down,” She said. “No more late shoots. I make my own hours.”
She told me that after 7 seasons she finally realized she needed to ask for exactly what she wanted. And what happened? She got it.
Life is too short to work crappy hours.
But most of us do. And so anytime there’s an opportunity to make my life easier I’m gonna go for it.
It turns out the paint I was there to learn about – INFINITY– actually knows this about us. It knows we have NO TIME.
After I stopped oggling Christina I opened my goodie bag and discovered that the HGTV HOME people had done all the legwork.
I know that other brands have swatch cards, but these are different. They’ve done all the research and based their Capitalizing Color Collections on forthcoming color trends. So those pillows and ottomans you’re about to purchase from XYZ Popular Store? The HGTV HOME Sherwin-Williams people have already taken those into account. The emerald green ceramic tiles that are the IT tiles of next season? They know about those too.
Who has time for trips back and forth to the paint store, painting sections of walls and sitting with them for days, weeks, even MONTHS at a time, until something or someone tells you that’s the one? And then when you do, there’s still a 50% chance you’ve chosen the wrong one.
Like the time I was going for a soft beachy gray and I got hospital room lavender. I didn’t realize until the room was halfway painted.
My color scheme for my current project is in Vintage Finds. Boom, done.
I’m just too busy for the trial and error process right now. There’s work and family and fun to be had. Yes, I love decorating, I love creating my spaces, but I have to outsource something. These booklets make me feel like I’ve hired an interior designer yet I’ve spent no money.
Now I can spend more time doing the things I love. Maybe get family manicures. 😉
Stay tuned. I’m going to use these HGTV HOME paints to jazz up our bedroom for our anniversary! Shhhh!
